When I was younger, I did a similar painting (yes, actual paint on canvas). The idea was to eliminate all of the zebras’ white lines, using just the white canvas, so the zebras were composed of only their black lines. Then I put a blazing, faded red sun in the empty sky above. The painting was minimalist, stark, and beautiful. My parents had it hanging above their fireplace for years (being estranged for decades now, I don’t know what ever happened to it).
So I recently decided to recreate the idea digitally, and produce a line of mugs for my online gift shop Lifeology Store, which can be viewed here. And IMO, they turned out wonderfully:
Then I added some color in order to create a cover image for my Facebook profile:
And then, seeing how beautiful it was in color, I decided to try transitioning the image to a 3-panel wall art set and adding some additional detail, which is shown above as a digital mock-up (because I don’t have any room to hang the set), so the actual pic I have is of the panels sitting on the floor together:
I’ve since developed the set in 3 different panel sizes (16 x 24, 12 x 18, & 8 x 12), with the intent of adding them to Lifeology Store (as time permits, or if anyone expresses interest in purchasing a set—and when they do become available, I’ll be announcing it here of course).
Anyway, just another one of my many projects that turned out pretty decent, and wanted to share…
