Contemplation: Can We Wait Until The Next Extinction-Level Impact Event?

Unfortunately, according to historical precedent, statistically the next extinction-level impact event isn’t due for another 35 million years (the last one being the Chicxulub meteor, which wiped out the dinosaurs (and nearly all life on earth) some 65 million years ago).

Paleontologists have identified 5 such mass extinction events in the past 500 million years—thus averaging about one every 100 million years.

So, assuming probability holds, it’s gonna be a while; so until then, we’ll either have to accept, tolerate, and suffer the prevailing evil—or find a way to end it ourselves.

Seeking, discovering, assimilating, and disseminating Truth establishes order from chaos. Today, the world is in chaos—so perhaps the world is not embracing Truth?

I happen to believe, in consonance with Gandhi, that Truth is God, and, in consonance with Tolstoy, that the kingdom of God is within us (as Jesus stated in Luke 17:21-22).

So again, it will be up to us, as individuals, to end the evil in the world. And the only way I can foresee doing this is by each of us, as individuals, living righteously. Living in Truth, in honesty, in integrity; with compassion, with generosity, with love for all—regardless of how different other individuals may seem from each of us—and avoiding violence against others.

A peaceful revolution. A revolution (evolution) of consciousness.

Lying/deception (non-Truth) is evil; violence is evil (even if once-removed and thus largely unseen); and even violence in response to violence is still violence, and should be avoided, which again Tolstoy maintained as well as Jesus (Matthew 5:38-48).

I believe that Jesus was trying to show us how to live in order to manifest peace, or heaven (the kingdom of God) on earth; so until enough of us embrace Truth and love, and reject non-truth and violence, evil will continue to prevail, and the kingdom of God will have to wait.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t take 35 million years…
