Jewel is one of my favorite musicians, and after I saw what she did in the following video, I like her even more!
Donning a disguise—including a wig, prosthetic nose, and glasses (even though, IMO, she still looked gorgeous!)—Jewel visited The GasLite karaoke bar as “Karen”, accompanied by actors playing coworkers, all of whom were wearing attendance badges from a “frozen foods convention”.
After a few of the coworkers tried their hand at karaoke, they began urging Karen to come up and sing. After feigning shyness and embarrassment, she finally relents and comes onstage…and begins singing songs by Jewel, of course…
She started with Who Will Save Your Soul, and the audience was immediately stunned, with several standing open mouthed in shock at how good she was. The crowd then demanded an encore—purportedly the first encore ever at the establishment—so she followed up with Foolish Games, and the crowd began singing along.
Afterward, she decided to remove the disguise and return as herself. The MC introduced Jewel onstage to the crowd’s astonishment, and she sang You Were Meant For Me, again with the entire crowd singing along.
