I originally posted a contemplation entitled Can We Wait Until The Next Extinction-Level Impact Event?, and then sometime afterward I stumbled across a video of Dr. Jordan Peterson speaking at an event hosted by Tony Robbins that I believe is highly relevant to this post, so I decided to update it with the new video:
ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Unfortunately, according to historical precedent, statistically the next extinction-level impact event isn’t due for another 35 million years, with the last one being the Chicxulub asteroid, which wiped out the dinosaurs (and nearly all life on earth) some 65 million years ago (which, BTW, is also the premise of my novel PRIMEVAL, as detailed in the book’s illustrated synopsis).
And Paleontologists have identified 5 such mass extinction events in the past 500 million years—thus averaging about one every 100 million years.
So, assuming probability holds, it’s gonna be a while before the next blazing massive rock puts us all out of our misery; so until then, we’ll either have to accept, tolerate, and suffer the prevailing evil—or find a way to evolve…
The world is in chaos—and since seeking, discovering, assimilating, and disseminating Truth establishes order from chaos, perhaps the world is not embracing Truth?
I’m coming to believe, in consonance with Gandhi, that Truth is God, and, in consonance with Tolstoy, that the kingdom of God is within us (as Jesus stated in Luke 17:21-22).
As I often state:
“Truth is eternal, and therefore divine; so my quest for Truth is, in essence, a spiritual one.”
So again, it will be up to each of us, as individuals, to end the evil in the world—by living truthfully and ethically, with compassion, with generosity, and in good stewardship—regardless of how different others may seem from ourselves—and avoiding violence against others when possible.
This will require a peaceful revolution, a revolution (evolution) of consciousness:

Because Lying/deception (non-Truth) is evil; violence is evil (even if once-removed/institutionalized and thus largely unseen); and even violence in response to violence is still violence, and should be avoided whenever possible, which again Tolstoy maintained as well as Jesus (Matthew 5:38-48).
I believe that Jesus was trying to show us how to live in order to manifest (the Kingdom of God, heaven on earth, Paradise, LogosLogos: the Divine reason implicit in the Universe, ordering it and giving it meaning; a primeval and eternal Truth available to everyone who seeks it; a unifying and liberating force which reconciles humanity with the Divine., etc); and until enough of us embrace Truth and love, and reject deceit and violence, evil will continue to prevail, and manifesting heaven on earth will have to continue to wait.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t take another 35 million years…
UPDATE: VIDEO ADDED
I feel the below video by Dr. Jordan Peterson and Tony Robbins is highly relevant to the aforementioned thoughts…
From the video synopsis: “In this provocative presentation, Peterson explores the profound question of why we—as individuals—hold the beliefs we do, while teaching us how to intricately weave the concept of storytelling into our narrative. He also embarks on a discovery to uncover order amidst chaos, as well as touches on the importance of overcoming external predators by confronting them head-on.”
