UPDATED (VIDEO): Since We Can’t Wait Until The Next Extinction-Level Impact Event…

I recently posted a contemplation entitled Can We Wait Until The Next Extinction-Level Impact Event? wherein I suggest that it is up to us as individuals to do what we can to end the evil in the world, as well as a quick little (and more personal) article entitled Life is Too Short to Wait wherein I mention my own struggles and attempt at living in Truth, come what may…and then this weekend I stumbled across a video of Dr. Jordan Peterson speaking at an event hosted by Tony Robbins that I believe is highly relevant to both ideas, i.e., our approach as individuals to life and the world and all their inherent struggles. So I decided to update the earlier article:

Unfortunately, according to historical precedent, statistically the next extinction-level impact event isn’t due for another 35 million years (the last one being the Chicxulub meteor, which wiped out the dinosaurs (and nearly all life on earth) some 65 million years ago).

Paleontologists have identified 5 such mass extinction events in the past 500 million years—thus averaging about one every 100 million years.

So, assuming probability holds, it’s gonna be a while; so until then, we’ll either have to accept, tolerate, and suffer the prevailing evil—or find a way to end it ourselves.

Seeking, discovering, assimilating, and disseminating Truth establishes order from chaos. Today, the world is in chaos—so perhaps the world is not embracing Truth?

I happen to believe, in consonance with Gandhi, that Truth is God, and, in consonance with Tolstoy, that the kingdom of God is within us (as Jesus stated in Luke 17:21-22).

So again, it will be up to us, as individuals, to end the evil in the world. And the only way I can foresee doing this is by each of us, as individuals, living righteously. Living in Truth, in honesty, in integrity; with compassion, with generosity, with love for all—regardless of how different other individuals may seem from each of us—and avoiding violence against others.

A peaceful revolution. A revolution (evolution) of consciousness.

Lying/deception (non-Truth) is evil; violence is evil (even if once-removed and thus largely unseen); and even violence in response to violence is still violence, and should be avoided, which again Tolstoy maintained as well as Jesus (Matthew 5:38-48).

I believe that Jesus was trying to show us how to live in order to manifest peace, or heaven (the kingdom of God) on earth; so until enough of us embrace Truth and love, and reject non-truth and violence, evil will continue to prevail, and the kingdom of God will have to wait.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t take 35 million years…

I feel the below video is highly relevant to the aforementioned thoughts…

From the video synopsis: “In this provocative presentation, Peterson explores the profound question of why we—as individuals—hold the beliefs we do, while teaching us how to intricately weave the concept of storytelling into our narrative. He also embarks on a discovery to uncover order amidst chaos, as well as touches on the importance of overcoming external predators by confronting them head-on.”
