VIDEO: Hoja Nueva is Rescuing 8 More Young Wildcats…

...And Needs Our Help

1 0

Once again, Hoja Nueva is rescuing endangered wildcats, this time five juvenile pumas, a baby pampas cat, and two juvenile oncillas. Due to their prior dire conditions and mistreatment, they are in need of immediate care.

From Founder & Co-Directer Samantha Zwicker:

“In the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, Hoja Nueva has become a last resort for some of the most vulnerable wildlife victims of trafficking and illegal trade.

Several of these animals are in critical condition:

• Two young pumas from zoos, one with over 30 reports of animal mistreatment. They are still there.
• The pampas cat, weighing less than 300 grams, appears to have fractured phalanges and is fighting to survive.
• The juvenile oncillas have been rescued from the pet trade, malnourished and in desperate need of rehabilitation.

Where these animals have been rescued, there are no facilities capable of giving them proper medical attention or even temporary care. Without us, their future is bleak—many will end up in substandard zoos or worse. Hoja Nueva is the only facility in Peru able to take in these cats and provide them with a chance at rehabilitation and release. However, we urgently need funds to make this possible. Our current big cat enclosures are full. We need to build at least five new large enclosures, in addition to covering the costly medical care and transport needed to save these animals.

We need 30K to meet the following goals, and a generous donor is matching up to 15K. Donations will help cover:

• Transport logistics to safely move the animals across various regions of Peru.
• Medical treatment for fractures, malnutrition, and infections.
• Enclosure construction to build five new large puma habitats, ensuring they have the space and care they need for recovery.”

Here’ Sam with more details:

As INSIGHTS subscribers are aware, I’m an avid supporter of Sam and her work through Hoja Nueva rescuing, rehabilitating, and rewilding or preserving endangered wildlife in the Peruvian Amazon rain forest, primarily due to deforestation, mining, and other destruction of their natural habitat, as well as illegal zoos and trafficking of the animals.

For more info, I’ve written several articles about them, and you can also review their website. (And there’s a documentary about her and the Khan Rewilding Center in Peru called Wildcat, available on Amazon Prime Video, I can highly recommend watching that as a primer for everything else they’ve been doing (and growing!) since.

But most importantly, they are in desperate need of funds for this latest intake of endangered wildcats, so any contribution of any size will help, and is greatly appreciated—keeping in mind that a generous donor has agreed to match all donations up to $15,000!

I personally thank you in advance for your consideration in this important matter.

Thank you! And please share far & wide!
