I recently read the following passage in The Unbearable Wholeness of Being by Ilia Delio, Founder of the Center for Christogenesis:
“In the medieval synthesis God was the source of unity, but in the Enlightenment the power to unify was to be found in the self-thinking subject. This “turn to the subject” imposed a burden on each person to make sense of the world individually and unify it by rational thought alone. With this inward turn of consciousness, objectivity came to be constituted by and to exist for the sake of subjectivity. Friedrich Nietzsche saw the direction of this trajectory as the death of God. Divine power lost control of creation as the human person became self-determining, gaining mastery over that which exists as a whole. The human person lost a sense of transcendence in creation and created new gods to fill the need for worship. Unable to bear the weight of unity (that is, holding the many together), the human person surrendered personal autonomy to science and technology, power, violence, and money.“
This got me wondering, in light of the recent global tyranny that emerged during the covid fears: has the old tyranny of state & church (or, more accurately, pseudo-religion) now been supplanted by a new tyranny of state & science (or, more accurately, pseudo-science)?
In other words, are corrupt actors within the science community, in collaboration with the state and its propagandists in the corporate media, exploiting the faith placed in them by the people, using it to instead enrich and empower themselves, just as corrupt actors within the church have done for millennia?
