The Costs of a New Life

Somebody recently posted this on Facebook, and it resonated with me. I responded, then followed up, then thought I’d share my thoughts here, in the hope that others find it helpful:

The Original Post:

For a year and a half I’ve been In such a heavy, deep, painful process of fighting for the new life my soul has called me for just like this. And every word on this page is true. I’ve always believed this because I’ve known it to be true through every major transformation I’ve been through. You don’t get to keep the old, and you wouldn’t want to. But it still hurts. Life can feel really empty during these stages. Like moving into a new house before any of your boxes of things that make a house a home have arrived. But the possibilities are there, and that keeps you moving forward. My life is starting to fill up with such beautiful that I’ve been sowing seeds for for years. But Letting go, Allowing people to float away and accepting it is hard.

My Response:

This quite accurately describes the precipice upon which I have arrived and am pausing, contemplating…

This morning I was considering posting a simple “Faith…is the Hardest Part” (again)…but this graphic fit the bill even better. I’m watching my old life come to an end right before my eyes…but as of yet I have no idea what, how, when, who, etc will replace it…but it’s ending nonetheless…all I can do is continue moving forward and hope…trust…believe…

Yesterday I, too, did an extensive SM purge—not of friends, but of areas/activities that were important to me in the past, but no longer seem to be today. Namely: politics, news, liberty…I’m done focusing on all that. There’s something more out there, and I intend to find it, embrace it, fulfill it…

And, as the book suggests, “meet the people who are meant for me on the other side”…

Then, My Follow Up:

Just wanted to post a quick follow-up to my previous post about facing an evolving life:

As many of you are likely aware, last week I once again achieved debtlessness. This was intentional, in preparation for the big changes (whatever they may be) coming on the horizon. It is difficult—if not impossible—to access opportunities with the anchor of debt shackled around your neck.

In addition, this week is the final week of our busy spring season in the pool business, so starting next week I’ll be taking at a minimum Fridays off for 3-day weekends over the summer, but am also in discussion with my partner about taking Tuesdays off as well, which I think is gonna happen. It’s a short route near his house, and he can do it himself easily (and double his money!). So I’ll just be working the 3 long routes, Mon/Wed/Thur.

The “life work” I need to focus on when the new reduced schedule hits is piling up (has been all spring), so I’m trying to prioritize and take a calm, productive approach and not get overwhelmed (re: the Mindset Shift article I recently published).

And as for the job, my sense is that as of November (or earlier), I’ll be stepping out. Last year I took the winter months off (Dec/Jan/Feb), and will be doing so again this year…but I suspect the 3-month hiatus will become permanent this time.

Again, nothing concrete waiting in the wings, just years of preparation…and, again: Faith.

From The Book:

  • Your new life is going to cost you your old one.
  • It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense
of direction.
  • It’s going to cost you relationships and friends.
  • It’s going to cost you being liked and understood.
  • It doesn’t matter.
  • The people who are meant for you are going to meet you
on the other side. You’re going to build a new comfort
zone around the things that actually move you forward.
Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved. Instead of
being understood, you’re going to be seen.
  • All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you
 no longer are.

Anyway, again, I wanted to share this in the hope that others find it helpful. ~ R
